Happy Fall!

We have done alot of activites with apples the last few weeks. Max has sorted, tasted, counted, and painted apples and their seeds! We also learned Psalm 17:8!

We went for a nature walk to find biotic and abiotic things-the lizard was the highlight of the walk! (Check out Max's right shoulder)
Max loves Classical Conversations and is learning alot of geography. We made this cool book to show where Max lives. It starts with the Earth and goes to our house.

We started Veritas Press's Phonics Museum. Max is starting to sound words out and read quite a few sight words. This week was short a and we celebrated with some "A" pancakes!

We are working our way through a bible story book and it is one of Max's favorite parts of our school day. This is a picture he drew of Jacob meeting Rachel at the well. I love the sheep!

The Science Museum

Building an arch like the good classically educated boy that he is!

Bat ears!

Bella doing some deep-sea diving in the shark tank!

Touching a shark!

Very cool star fish, hermit crabs, and clams

Amazing sand sculpture at the shark tank

We have a family pass to the Children's Museum in Richmond and during the month of September that pass also got us into the Science Museum next door. We went down yesterday morning and had a great time! They have a really great shark exhibit and Max got to pet some sharks, hear about some cool invertebrates from the sea, and dig for shark teeth in a sand box. There were buttons and levers galore for him to play with and we had fun building an arch. They have a space exhibit and a bat exhibit. Max had just learned about invertebrates, Greek and Roman architecture and semi-permiable membranes at school so it was perfect! Our only regret is that we didn't take advantage of it more times this month!

Is it June yet?

This is what it looked like after Max cleaned up-ALL BY HIMSELF!

He loved this book and all the fun things we did with it!

Max sorted shapes and then turned them into a monster!

Bella played with some monsters, but she isn't one!

Max had to reach in the monsters mouth and get letter tiles so he could match upper and lower case letters.
Is it June yet?
Just kidding-I think! Well, we did it-Max and I have successfully had two weeks of kindergarten! And we have PERSEVERED!
I won't lie to you-this is hard, it is alot of work, and my house is a mess because I haven't figured out how to be teacher, mom, chef, laundress, and housekeeper. But we are slowly getting the hang of our schedule and I am pretty sure Max and I both had fun this week and learned!
Keep praying for us to persevere and most especially to keep our eyes on Jesus! (Max almost has Hebrews 12:1-2 memorized! Ask him about it the next time you see him!)
So here are a few pictures from our first two weeks-we've had school inside and out and this week was "Monster Week"-we have read and written about monsters, sorted and counted monsters, done monster art, and in case you think it was all fun-there's some pics of him doing math worksheets!
