Classical Conversations

Max's AWESOME teacher, Mrs. Bard

Max had two weeks to make an "egg protector" and then he got to see if it worked!

Max and his classmates

Max's egg protector-It worked!  The egg survived!!

Max stood up in front of his classmates and their parents and spoke Chinese.  By Himself!!

Singing in Chinese with his class-He is such a ham!!

We have been so blessed by our Classical Conversations group this year.  Max(and even Bella!) has learned so much and had so many opportunities for enrichment.  He was with a great teacher who led a group of 6 squirmy, excited, messy boys on a great journey of bible, history, art, music, math, latin, english, science, and geography.  Max also took Chinese lessons from one of the moms and loved it.  He learned alot in those 6 weeks and really wants to keep going.  He says he would love to go to China as a missionary some day.

March

Max and his best buddy Luke played against each other at the final game of the season.

Bella loves to color.  Clothes are optional.

Max was in the third row at the time of the accident.
March blew in and out so fast!  We worked really hard on school work and Max is doing so well!  He loves to read and we often find him with his nose in a book.  He took 6 weeks of Chinese classes and loved it!  Basketball finished up and while we loved it, we are happy to have our Saturdays free again.  He also made lots of progress with riding his bike without training wheels.  He is looking forward to participating in a kid triathlon this summer!  Bella is a little whirlwind.  She is talking in complete sentences and loves to sing especially "Jesus Loves Me".  She loves babies and takes good care of her Elmo.  She has made some sweet little friends at CC and talks about them often.
On March 18, the kids and I were in a pretty scary car accident.  We rode in an ambulance and spent the morning at the ER.  We are so very thankful for God's protection on all of us.  The van was totaled but insurance has thankfully been easy to navigate.  We are hoping to have a new van by the end of the day!
We had some nice weather and then some more snow.  We are really looking forward to warm weather and the end of school!!

Max's Art

This is actually from a math lesson on symmetery.  Max likes that it looks like a frog!

Self portrait in the style of Rembrandt

We did this one on our own after reading a story about Ella Fitzgerald that has illustrations like Henri Matisse's collages that he did in the later years of his life.

This is Max's reproduction of Van Gogh's Starry Night

Another Matisse recreation
In case you can't tell it is an alien alligator.

A painting in the style of Picasso's Blue Period
This is a recreation of an Impressionist painter named Berthe Morisot
One of the things that I love about Classical Conversations is the exposure that Max gets to art and music.  He just finished 6 weeks of art and loved it!  They study an artist and then have a chance to create something similar to that artist's work.  Here are his creations!
